Replicating between different vSphere editions...

Post by mc1903 »

Hi,

I just want to clarify the license position regarding replicating between different vSphere editions...

I would like to replicate VM's between a vSphere 5.1 Enterprise edition cluster (10 CPU's) in my Prod environment and a vSphere 5.1 Standard cluster edition in my DR site (10 CPU's)..?

I understand I can only use one edition of Veeam B&R - (I am looking at Enterprise Plus for the WAN acceleration)

Question #1 - Is this a supported configuration..?

Question #2 - How many Veeam B&R Enterprise Plus licenses do I need..?

Question #3 - How many Veeam Backup Servers should I deploy..? I am thinking two - one in my Prod DC and one in the DR DC

Question #4 - Is Veeam Enterprise Manager a separate product / License or it it included with B&R..?

Thanks in advance,
Martin

Hi, Martin.
Question #1 - Is this a supported configuration..?
Yep, as long as, VMs are replicated between licensed ESXi version, there won’t be any problem.
Question #2 - How many Veeam B&R Enterprise Plus licenses do I need..?
One license that will cover the “source” host, where VMs to backup/replicate reside on.
Question #3 - How many Veeam Backup Servers should I deploy..? I am thinking two - one in my Prod DC and one in the DR DC
“Two servers” scenario is typically recommended. Having such deployment guarantees that if any disaster happens (primary site goes down, for instance), the required operations (Failover/Failback) can be easily started from DR site without any issues.
Question #4 - Is Veeam Enterprise Manager a separate product / License or it it included with B&R..?
Nope, it’s included in your license.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
