Restore always uses nbd (I had hotadd before)
Hi,
veeam proxy used hotadd before. But after a lot of modifications to configuration are made (in order to get "Direct SAN mode" working for backup) now restore only uses nbd. Well... I'm not sure what is missing in order to get hotadd working for restore.
I'm only using iSCSI for all machines, so there is no physical disk directly connected to ESXi. For better understanding I made a plan:

I'd like to know what should I do so I can enable hotadd for restore.

I’m wondering what type of restore you’re talking to – is it the case of Full VM restore? Just making sure that we are staying along the same line, you do understand that hot-add is only used for full VM or VMDK level restore, don’t you?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Florian, is there a chance that some limitations of using hotadd could come into effect due to these modifications?floh-erfurth wrote:But after a lot of modifications to configuration are made (in order to get "Direct SAN mode" working for backup) now restore only uses nbd.

@Eremin:
Yes, its about Full VM restore.
@foggy:
I carefully read your link. No, none of my modifications causes such effect as described in limitations of using hotadd. The only modifications I made is, removing uneccesary iSCSI-targets on ESXi's.

Then I would suggest to open a case with our technical support so they could assist you in defining the reason of hotadd failure by reviewing the restore session debug logs.
