Restore for DR testing to temp ESXi server

Hi,

we're looking for a way to test our DR script by periodically testing it with a free ESXi environment (we don't have spare ESXi licenses). How do we do this without getting the 'Restore job failed Error: Current vSphere license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation' error. The DR environment is a seperate piece of hardware (server, switch and SSD storage) which is normally offline except when testing the DR script.

For VM backup and restore, a paid ESXi license is required.
vSphere Storage APIs are not available in the free ESXi version, and we need to use them for the restore.
