Restore Instant Restore with change back to Physical machine

Post by installdemo »

Hi,

I performed a FULL backup of a Physical Windows 11 Enterprise machine, did an Instant Recovery to vSphere, made changes, and would NOW like to Restore this backup [with changes] back to the original Physical Windows 11 Enterprise machine.

Please tell me how I can [best] do this. (supported method or not)

Kind Regard & Thanks

FYI: I do see option to 'restore to production', which I guess will make a new VM (with changes) on ESXi. Not what I want, but if that needs to be the first step [in a multistep process], then so be it.

Remember, I want to restore back to the Physical Machine, ultimately.

Hello!

Yes, you should finalize the recovery first and foremost to ensure the VM runs off of your production storage, without any dependencies on backup storage, write cache storage and instant recovery engine.

Then you should perform an agent-based backup of this machine, and after that perform a bare metal recovery (using Recovery Media) to your physical server. This method is fully supported.

Thanks!

Well Gostev,

it worked like a charm; exactly as you had predicted. Are you a Magician?

It even retained the non-UEFI bios of my older machine.

Of course, I was so happy I missed that little tidbit of the backup being 'Agent' based, my first go around. Once I corrected that, it was Perfect.

Thank you and thank you.
