Restore Repository Windows 2012 Dedup enabled

Post by Fabrice »

Hello

I set up the following Veeam infrastructure:

Veeam Server 2008R2
2 Windows 2012 proxy with local repository and Windows 2012 dedup enabled on the repository.

I backup my repository on tape every day.
When I restore the repository A on B it is impossible to open VBK. If I restore the repository A on him even opening VBK no problem.

Are there any recommendations for the restoration of VBK and VIB repository on 2012 with dedup enabled.

Fabrice, I know that you could restore an entire deduplicated volume to another Windows 2012 server with deduplication feature enabled and be able to read the deduplicated files on it (as deduplication metadata are stored within the volume itself), however I'm not sure about copying single deduped files between servers, especially via tape. How do you offload your backup repository to tape? Is the file stored in a deduplicated format on tape?

Fabrice,

What happens if you first restore your files to the original dedupe volume, then move these files to an non-dedupe volume on another server. Does it work?

Thanks!

I’m wondering whether the only affected files are the ones produced by Veeam Backup and Replication. Can the ordinary files that reside on server A be backed up to tape, and later be restored/open to server 2 without any issues or not?

Thanks.

I have not other files on the servers. The servers are the Veeam repository. I backup the veeam file with hp dataprotector after the veeam job are successful.

Then, it might be worth taking a simple test with other files and seeing whether you get similar results or not. Thanks.

the problem is the HP DATA PROTECTOR 6.0 which does not support Windows 2012 dedup.

I test with HP DataProtector 8.0
