Restoring from a full backup file

Post by usrlocalbjcener »

I've got a VM whose actual size is 280GB, but Veeam compresses it down to 67GB.

If I were to do a restore to the prod host from that Veeam file, would I estimate my transfer time based on 67GB or 280GB? Does Veeam decompress the file before sending it across the wire?

Transfer will depends on transport mode and will be:
Direct SAN = 280GB (but LAN-free, via SAN fabric)
Hot Add = 67GB (via backup infrastructure network)
NBD = 280GB (via host's management network)
