Self backup portal when domain is different for each vCenter
Hello,
I understand that in order to use the Self Backup Portal, Enterprise Manager and vCenter need to be in the same domain.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4
How do I need to configure Self Backup Portal if multiple vCenters belong to different domains?
Ex)
"vCenter A" and "Enterprise Manager" join the same domain.
"vCenter B" and "vCenter C" join different domains.
----
vCenter A - AAA.domain
vCenter B - BBB.domain
vCenter C - CCC.domain
Enterprise Manager - AAA.domain
----
For example, does it need to have a different Enterprise Manager for each vCenter?
When there are three vCenters participating in different domains, three Enterprise Managers need to be prepared?
Regards,
Yuya

Hello,
if you cannot configure the following requirements, then you need three enterprise managers. Correct.

Re: Self backup portal when domain is different for each vCenter
Hello,
Thank you for answering.
I understood.
In this case, do I need to prepare Veeam Backup & Replication server for each Enterprise Manager?
In other words, if I have 3 vCenters in different domains, do I also need 3 Veeam Backup & Replication servers?
Or is there a problem with even one Veeam Backup & Replication server?
Regards,
Yuya

Hello,
correct. One VBR server can only have one enterprise manager. So you also need three backup servers.

Hello,
Thank you very much.
I understood it well.
I have one more question.
When configuring a self-backup portal, please let us know the recommended configuration of the Enterprise Manager server.
For example,

Re: Self backup portal when domain is different for each vCenter
Hello,
The system requirements do not include the specific number of CPUs.
Also, memory is a minimum requirement.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... l?ver=95u4
CPU: x64 processor
Memory: 4 GB RAM (minimum recommended).
Hard disk space: 2 GB on the system disk (required to extract all components from the setup package during the product installation).
Network: 1Gbps recommended due to backup performance considerations.
So I wanted to know the best practices.
For example, should we increase resources by the number of VMs to manage and the number of users?
Regards,
Yuya

Re: Self backup portal when domain is different for each vCenter
Hello,
there are no (official) best practices on number of VMs / users. The only recommendations for EM are for index size, but this is probably not used
I would just start with 4cores & 16GB of RAM and see whether it's fast enough (as you did not mention numbers, I just picked some average value from customers).
If you run SQL express locally, make sure you have 1 socket with 4 cores and not 4 sockets with one core due to SQL express limitations.
Hope that helps,
Hannes

Re: Self backup portal when domain is different for each vCenter
Hello,
I understood about the best practices.
Thank you very much.
I have more questions.
There is only one vCenter, but if vCenter joins in more than one domain (identity source), how do I configure a self-backup portal?
Should I create Enterprise Manager for per domains?
Regards,
Yuya

Hello,
yes, one EM per domain. EM can only handle one domain today.
your environment sounds fairly complex. Do you have a chance to contact your local Veeam SE and talk with them directly?
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Self backup portal when domain is different for each vCenter
Hello,
Thank you for the advice.
There is no problem as I could understand it.
Let me ask you one last question.
We need to prepare Enterprise Manager server for each domain of vCenter.
We need to prepare Veeam Backup & Replication server for each Enterprise Manager server.
Therefore, if vCenter join in 3 domains, we need to prepare 3 Enterprise Manager servers and 3 Veeam Backup & Replication servers. Correct?

Yuya
