Server 2012 R2 freezes during Veeam backup with DCOM error
This is logged as part of Case # 00963742
Has anyone else come across an issue where by a Veeam backup randomly triggers DCOM error 10010 which causes VM console freeze and RDP access to stop. This also affects some processing components on a VM but not all. The exact DCOM error is as follows with the same GUID each time
The server {1F87137D-0E7C-44D5-8C73-4EFFB68962F2} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
This seems to relate to WMI Host provider on the server. This has killed a few 2012 R2 VM's now since upgrading to Veeam 8 Update 2b. I have seen this error once though on an original release of Veeam 8.
Would be great to know if anyone else has experienced this issue. Its not ideal that a server has a chance of freezing during a backup. Personally I don't think Veeam is the cause, only the trigger.
Thanks,
Ian

Can you tell us when the issue usually happens? During the beginning of the job or closer to its end? Are you using Application Aware Image Processing for this VM?

Re: Server 2012 R2 freezes during Veeam backup with DCOM err
Hi Vladimirir
It is usually towards the end of the Job. Application aware processing is enabled, however I have disabled it on a couple of VM's since they crashed and the issue has not reoccurred since on those 2 VM's (They are vCenter VM's). I am wondering if its something to do with VSS. Like I say, I suspect Veeam is only the trigger, not the cause of the issue.
This has happened on a DFS server and a KMS server as well.
Thanks,
Ian

Hi,
According to MS technet it might be a permissions problem.
Have you ever seen any login/password problems messages anywhere in logs? I'd double check credentials for guest processing.
Thank you.

Hi Pavel,
Thanks for the link.
I have looked at the permissions, its not that unfortunately. This issue only happens intermittently. I think the clue is in the GUID in the event ID error. The DCOM 10010 error can manifest its self in many ways.
Thanks,
Ian

For anyone who stumbles across this issue as it was driving me nuts. The issue is the vShield tools driver in VMware tools in ESXi 5.5 u1
VMware KB about it here http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/micros ... Id=2095445
vShield drivers freezes the VM which manifests its self in DCOM crashing in guest amongst other issue.

Yes we had this issue, too.
I missed to post it here, sorry for that.
We had to do a lot of restart, also with VMs from our customer... not very nice... until VMware found a solution
