SFR from Netapp Snapvault Destination

Post by sandsturm »

Hi

I tried to make a single file restore from a VM, which is stored on a Netapp SnapVault Destination system. The backup browser for single file restore (MS Windows) opens without problems, although it take minutes to open the browser. My problem is, if I choose a file to restore, the "Keep" or "Overwrite" options are greyed out. I'm able to copy the file to any location but restoring the file to the server itself is not possible. If I open the single file restore backup browser onto a backup (for the same virtual machine), which is on a snapshot on the primary netapp system (not snapvaulted), I'm able to restore the data...
Does anybody know, what the problem could be in this case?

thx,
sandsturm

This is expected:
[For secondary storage arrays] You cannot perform Instant VM Recovery and restore VM guest OS files to the original location from snapshots on secondary storage arrays — NetApp SnapMirror, SnapVault and Nimble Snapshot Replicated Copy. Secondary storage arrays are not mapped to original VMs and datastores.
