Shutdown esxi host after replica job

Hi,

We would like to reduce power consumption in our off site datacenter by shutting down the host after the replica job completes. Has anyone done this with a post job script? We use B&R 9 update 1 and esxi 5.5.

Hmm...I don't remember anyone doing it, but I guess you can use a PowerCLI script to achieve your goal. BTW, how often do you replicate production VMs and what's your RTO?

We only replicate once a day at night and there is not a specific RTO in this case. So the majority of the time the hosts are idle. Our goal is to conserve the best we can.

Have you tried using VMware's power management?

I currently run all the replica hosts in low power state. Is that what you mean about power management?

That's actually a good idea, Steve. There are two ways to manage host power, one is Distributed Power Management and another is Host Power Management. It seems like the OP is using the second option. To the best of my knowledge DPM can power on and power off hosts based on certain conditions, so it is worth considering this tool from VMware.

The problem with using vmware to power down the host is that the replica run time can vary. I was hoping to use a veeam post job script to trigger the shut down.
