SQL VM migration ?
Hi all,
What happen during Databse VM migration on two differents distant servers ? :
- need stop activity manually on database server (Network, data,...) ?
- auto-freeze database server by Veeam Backup ?
- or, automatic update recent data during transfer ?
thanks !

Re: SQL VM migration ?
Hi Fabien,
In order to migrate SQL Server VM you can either use Quick Migration or replication jobs with permanent failover. During these jobs there is no need to stop activities/services of the application, everything will be orchestrated by Veeam. Where do you plan to migrate your VM? Within the same site?
Thanks!

Thanks to reply !
I want to migrate my VM on distant site, thanks to a WAN link.
So you confirm that my SQL VM can continue to run during failover, without lose data.

Re: SQL VM migration ?
What bandwidth do you have on this link? I wouldn't recommend running production SQL Server on the open snapshot for a long time. I would suggest doing local backup, restoring this file on the remote site and finally creating new replication job mapped to this restored VM. After you do that, run the job and perform permanent failover. Thanks!

Re: SQL VM migration ?
Yes, but this solution implies shutdown "SQL VM", it's right ?
Actualy i don't know bandwidth on WAN link.
So WAN Link it's a real problem for this needing !
