storage snapshots

Post by Muhammadshah »

Hello,

I want to ask about the backup using storage snapshot integration. we are using Veeam Enterprise and VMware with nimble storage.
For storage snapshot integration, Do we need to have only physical servers running Veeam or we can use Veeam on virtual machines to use a proxy server and have storage snapshot?

thanks,

Hi Muhammad, welcome to the community!

You can use virtual machines for backup infrastructure. Here is the general limitations page for additional information.
Please review a step-by-step guide about the proper configuration of Backup Infrastructure for Storage Snapshots.

Thanks!

Storage integration in general:
If FC is used, then you need a physical Proxy Server for the rescan and backup from storage snapshot.
If you use NFS or iSCSI, then you can go with a physical Proxy Server.

For all other roles it do not matter in this context if they are installed on physical or virtual servers.

Please check if you have the needed license for what you want to do, as Enterprise license do not include Backup from Storage Snapshots or OnDemand Labs from Storage Snapshots.

With a virtual proxy, you lose the benefits of direct connection to the storage - data will flow through the hypervisor instead.
