Hi,
Today we have the following backup infrastructure.
1 B&R server running on VMware
3 B&R proxy servers running on VMware
1 NAS repository box where all backup is stored
All connection is on lan, vmware is on 10gbit, physical servers 1gbit
100 virtual servers and 100 physical servers
We have a challenge that the backup takes some time, and we would also like to have an offline backup.
We are not able to replace the NAS box, but we can bundle more nics on the box so we will have better speed.
We are looking into buying a staging server with a lot of disk space, 16 core CPUs, 64bg memory, 10gbnic and connect this
to the core switch. Then we will have 10gbit to VMware, but still regular 1gbit to the physical servers.... ok with that.
Then we would use this staging server as primary backup repository, and do backup-copy-jobs over from this server and to the NAS box, and also to the tape library.
Does this seem like a good solution, since we cannot replace the NAS box....
Any suggestions how to spec the staging server when it comes to speed of disks, raid 5/6, cpu cores +++
Thanks for reply
Andreas

Re: Suggestion staging server changes to backup infrastructu
Hi Andreas, what are the bottleneck stats for your jobs currently?

Hi,
Well bottleneck stats varies between source and target.

Adding a staging server will most likely allow to improve performance for the jobs that report target as the major bottleneck. As for those that report source, you need to take a closer look at the transport method used to retrieve VM data from the source storage.
