SureBackup, 2008r2 server ping test fails, unable to logon.
Hi.
Have a virtual lab for surebackup of my jobs and i am having trouble with one of my vm's when running the SB job.
My other machine goes thru with warning on the application section but otherwise fine.
The vm is a 2008R2 server with exchange 2010 running on it.
The vm is started and SureBackup succeeds with everything including heartbeat until the ping test, where t stops and eventually fails.
If i open a console to the vm created by SureBackup i can see it boots up and the logon screen is displayed.
However, if i try to login it seems to hang at "applying user settings".
I don't know if these things are connected somehow.
Do you have any expirience regarding this, could it be that the exchange server is
waiting for something that isn't available in the virtual lab environment, or do i have a real problem with my server here?
Regards
Björn

Björn,
Could you please give us a bit more details on your issue? Do you have DC and DNS server added to application group which is used by the SureBackup job? Btw, what type of network adapter does your Exchange VM use?
Thanks.

The server isn't a DNS or DC just a domain member server running exchange 2010, so therefore i have none of these applications choosen.
The network adapter is E1000 type, (Intel MT1000).

To verify Exchange VM you need to have DC and DNS server present in the SureBackup job. Take a look at sticky F.A.Q. for more details. Thanks!

Thank you for your help, the tests are working fine now.Vitaliy S. wrote:To verify Exchange VM you need to have DC and DNS server present in the SureBackup job. Take a look at sticky F.A.Q. for more details. Thanks!
But: after the tests are done the SureBackup job "hangs" at "sending email report".
The machines remain published and powered on in the VMware host, have i missed something else?
I have not configued the job to send email or snmp, neither have i checked the "keep the application group running" checkbox in the App, group.

It's hard to say why your SureBackup job behaves like that. Can you please open a support ticket with our technical team, so we could review SB job log files?

I had similar behavior when my app group VMs where part of the Linked Backup file that I'm testing, maybe you could tell us how your SB job is setup

Re: SureBackup, 2008r2 server ping test fails, unable to log
Thank's for your input.
In my job i have an app group with 2 machines, the dc and my exchange server to successfully verify the exchange server as suggested in earlier post here.
The SB job is linked only to the backup job of the exchange server (dc and exchange servers are backed up as separate jobs).
Could this be the issue?

Try it like this;
App Group: DC VM Only(add DC DNS etc test)
Linked Job: Exchange Backup
On the linked job screen, select the backup and click;
Advanced->Add->Expand Backup Tree->Select Exchange VM->Add
Highlight Exchange VM and click Edit to add the test you want and just finish the setting as per your norm

Works like a charm!ThomasMc wrote:Try it like this;

Is this the "ultimate" way to do this?
