SureBackup proxy appliance Virtual Hardware version

Post by ptmartin »

Hi All,
I don't think this is new per se but I happened to notice that the SureBackup virtual lab that is automatically created is done so with VM hardware version 4 according to the vSpehere client. I'm using vSphere version 5.0 and Veeam version 6.1. I'm sure there must be a reason but am curious why it is created like that and if there is any harm or advantage in upgrading it to the latest version? I didn't see those questions specifically addressed anywhere in my search so I thought I'd post the question here.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hi Paul, the appliance is created with hardware version 4 so that it can be used on, or migrated to, ESX(i) 3.x hosts - version that we still support. You can definitely upgrade the virtual hardware version if you'd like. In fact, this is exactly what you would need to do if you wanted to use more than 3 networks in the virtual lab, for example. Thanks!

[MERGED] Virtual Lab virtual hardware version 4?

Post by davidb1234 »

I noticed this today. Can this be upgraded to the most recent version 8? Or would it be best to leave it at 4 which is what it is when you let Veeam create a virtual lab in 6.5.

Hi David,

Yes, virtual lab can be manually upgraded to the most recent hardware version.
