SureBackup & vCD Jobs

Post by MarkBoothmaa »

I've just been looking at one of our deployments and when I try to configure a SureBackup Verification-only job, It only shows jobs of the Type VMware Backup.

Normally this wouldn't be an issue however, most of the jobs on this particular instance are Cloud Director Backup jobs.

We have a valid Ent Plus rental license and are running 12.1.0.2131

Does SureBackup only work for VMware Backup jobs?

Hi Mark

SureBackup Lite jobs are not yet available for vCD backup jobs.
We plan to add this functionality in one of our next releases. But no ETA yet.

I thought I received an email from Veeam that SureBackup for vCD is available in 12.3, but I don't see it in the Release Notes. Did I misread the email?

Hello David

Yes, vCD backups should be available now in SureBackup Job Lite.

Fabian,

Is vCD testing only available in SureBackup Lite, or in the full SureBackup?

@Mildur,

Any idea when we might be able to see full SureBackup for vCD? This is probably one the most-requested features from our customers.

Hi David,

There are no immediate plans for support. The future of VCD lies in its integration with the VCF platform, and we are awaiting the early bits to assess the overall impact on our existing VCD integration.

Could you clarify which specific tests you find missing when using SureBackup Lite versus the full?

@Ivank

As I understand it, SureBackup Lite only does malware scanning of the backed-up servers. Our customers want (and expect us to provide) full recovery verification, proving that a VM can be restored, powered on, and serve whatever application(s) it was designed for. Today, that is a manual process, requiring an over-allocation of resources to the tenant so that they (or our engineers) can manually perform a server recovery. What we want is to be able to schedule out the recovery to an sandboxed area and have automation test that all services came up properly. In other words: the Virtual Lab component that SureBackup uses.
