Surebackup - VMs not starting
case 01858955
We've got 7 labs setup for application upgrade testing. To get the lab going I disabled all test just to get the VMs online and attached to the private network in the lab. Currently I have a domain controller in the application group that will not boot up at all - the console in vCenter shows the 2012 windows flag at boot up but never gets past that. My first thought is that this isn't quite a DC issue since I'm not ever getting to the login screen. I've verified vmtools is current on the source VM, backups jobs are running fine. I've uploaded the logs to support and have asked for an update (not heard back yet). Anyone else run into a 2012 VM that didn't boot in a virtual lab?

Chris, is application-aware image processing enabled on the job that backs this DC up?

No it's not - there are two DCs in this application group from different domains - one works and one doesn't.

It is always recommended to backup domain controllers with AAIP enabled, to enable proper restoration.

Re: Surebackup - VMs not starting
For this virtual lab - I can't get the VMs to boot into windows let alone worry about the applications starting or not. I continue to see server 2012 vms not power on - the only thing they do is sit at the Windows flag, with the spinning circle at the bottom, and don't get to the login screen.

I did an instant recovery of these VMs - no AAIP enabled when the backups ran - and the DCs do boot up and get to the login screen. I don't understand why in the virtual lab they fail to fully boot up.

Do you have Domain Controller role selected for this VM in app group?
