Switch Backup Server communication from ESXi to vCenter
Veeam B&R Version: 12.3.2.4165 on Windows Server
vSphere version: 7
Hi,
My setup for offsite backups: Veeam Backup Server (to backup ESXi VM's) > Veeam Proxy > Veeam Gateway > Repository
I originally configured this instance of Veeam B&R so that it directly talks to my only ESXi host. Recently I got vCenter up and running again and now i want to let Veeam B&R talk directly to vCenter instead of ESXi as i've read that that is more preferable. Repository and everything else stays exactly the same.
My question: can i map the existing backups when i let Veeam talk to vCenter instead of ESXi so it won't trigger full backups? Because I've tested this in a particular backup job by removing example VM-1 from the job and re-adding example VM-1 back into the job, but this time i didn't add example VM-1 from ESXi but from vCenter. I did this all in go, so in other words: i removed example VM-1 and immediately re-added VM-1 (i didn't close the editor before i re-added it). I noticed this unfortunately triggered a full backup of VM-1. Is there any way around this so it won't trigger full backup?
Thanks in advance

Re: Switch Backup Server communication from ESXi to vCenter
My guess is the GUID for your VMs will change based on moving from ESXi to vCenter which is what causes the full backups.

You would need to use this tool to help with that - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13
(PS - Not sure if this will work with ESXi as it is meant for vCenter so test first)

Not a problem, and I hope it helps your move.
