Synthetic full backup Job
Hello,
We have configured our first Synthetics full backups, but the jobs are taking a lot of time. The incremental backup were done without problems but the creation of the synthetic backup is taking more than 17 hours (and still not ended).
I’m looking at the 2 Veeam Proxies and they seem to have ended their jobs. I don’t know if the consolidation of the new “full” backup is done only by the Veeam Server or the Veeam Proxies does the job too.
Thanks

Hi,
What type of backup storage do you have?

Re: Synthetic full backup Job
Hello
It is a NetApp 2040 8147-mode, connected via gigabit Ethernet on a different VLAN
Later on, creating this post, I found another post of 2014 that was explaining the same problem.
It was telling that the synthetic backup creation is only done by the veeam server, not by the proxies, is this true?
Can I have more than one server with the "backup creation role"?

Re: Synthetic full backup Job
Ruben,
The synthetic full backup is created by Veeam component called "data mover" that is deployed on the target. So Veeam server is not involved in actual creation of backups, it only manages the process. Unless in the server is installed multiple roles like Veeam server, backup proxy and backup storage.
Further can you specify the type of your backup repository ?
BR,
Alex

Re: Synthetic full backup Job
Your CIFS share seems to be poorly handling random Read/Write IO put by synthetic full activity. As the result, the performance is degraded.
You can take a look at this article for more detailed information about job bottleneck analysis.

Yes, you can add several backup repositories to your infrastructure. Can I have more than one server with the "backup creation role"?
