Synthetic full triggers 100% CPU and repo server unresponsive
Hi,
We're running VBR 9.5 u4b and all of our VBR role servers are VMs running on ESXi 6.7 U1/2.
We have issues where when larger file servers are doing a weekly synthetic full job it can cause the repo server it's running on to trigger to 100% CPU, switch to 'unavailable' within the Veeam console on the mgmt server and vCenter says VMware tools (10.3.10) are not running.
A hard reset of the server is required, and subsequent retries of the synth full can trigger the same behaviour but sometimes retry 3 is successful.
Repo server will have 8 vCPU set in a 2 socket, 4 core, and 16GB memory, running on a HPE DL360 Gen10 with 2 processors, Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5120 CPU (2.2 GHz / 14-core).
Repo servers are 2016 with 64k ReFS with current Windows CU.
Thoughts, comments, ideas are appreciated.
Thanks.
G.

Hi Gordon,
When you encounter a technical issue it's always necessary to raise a support case immediately to get a solution asap, as our ability to troubleshoot through the forum is limited. Please, let us know your case ID once you have it for reference purpose. Also note, that according to our forum rules any topic not having a case ID will be eventually removed by forum moderators.
Thank you

Hi Gordon, what is the max number of concurrent tasks setting for the repository and are there other tasks running in parallel with the synthetic full? I'd check the system requirements for the repository, since this might be the consequence of insufficient resources.

Re: Synthetic full triggers 100% CPU and repo server unresponsive
Thanks guys,
I'll have our service provider log a case if needed. Right now i'm investigating myself. Foggy, the concurrent tasks for the repos i'm having issue with are set 4 but usually there's no more then 2 jobs running at any given time on those servers. I'll drop it to 2 just to see if that helps. Thanks for the reply.

With the exception for synthetic operations. Please note that one task = one VM disk being processed.
