Two Backup Job - same VMs
Hi guys, I have a little customer with two Veeam Backup Job that point to different repository: one Backup Job to local storage , and one Backup Job to a QNAP NAS
Both Backup Job take care of the same VMs , so they are backupped two times every night
This setup can lead to issues with CBT Tracking? Or Veeam/VMware can track different Backup Jobs on the same VM?
ESXi is 6.7 U1 release
Veeam just got updated to v10a with CBT reset enabled on full backup
Thanks!
Marco

Re: Two Backup Job - same VMs
Use only one backup job to local storage.
For the qnap NAS, use Veeam Backup Copy Job and you will not have cbt errors, because the vm is processed only by one Backup job. The other is a simple copy of the already created backups.

Re: Two Backup Job - same VMs
While Backup Copy Jobs is a good way to address this, two separate backup jobs will also work. Just keep the 3-2-1 rule in mind. 3 Copies (source, backup, secondary backup), two different medias, one additional place.
Because of hackers or Ransomware keep some backups immutable or air gapped.
Regarding CBT. You can backup/replicate the VM as often as you want from as many backup applications as you want, there will be no issue with CBT. Basically each snapshot that you create will increase the CBT signature for changes by 1. The backups track this number and if you know what the last backup point was you know that you need to backup any data that was marked with a higher CBT number. So it do not matter how many backups/snapshots happened for a VM.

Re: Two Backup Job - same VMs
if you want to keep the two backup jobs, to ensure performance if the parallel is too much for your infra, you can trigger the secondary backup job to start when the first one finishes (under schedule tab -> run automatically -> after this job)
