Unable to perform application-aware processing of Oracle database
Hi,
We have several oracle vms that are running internal oracle backup and dumps this to the F: drive.
We are using internal Oracle backup because thats what the Oracle DB wants, no discussion
So we then use Veeam to backup the VM after Oracle backup has run, and we exclude the directory where the *.DBF, *.CTL files are located.
The backup works fine, but we allways get a warning "Unable to perform application-aware processing of Oracle database (SID: xxx) : Oracle error has occurred. ORA-01017:insufficient privileges".
I know that is because we have put a check mark on application-aware processing, but I guess we need to have that check since we want to exclude the direcroty that contains the *.DBF, *.CTL files.
Because if we remove the application-aware processing checkmark I guess it could mess up the files ? or will it fail, have not tried it.
Please advice.
/Regards
Andreas

Re: Unable to perform application-aware processing of Oracle database
Hello Andreas,
if you choose "disable application processing", you can still exclude files.
Best regards,
Hannes

If you are using a service account for application awareness, you can add that account to the ORA_DBA windows group. I found this in a KB article https://www.veeam.com/kb2333. It will clear the warning.

Re: Unable to perform application-aware processing of Oracle database
@Andrew: I'm not sure whether this would make the Oracle DBA happy. Because depending on the Veeam configuration we would ship / truncate the log files...

@Hannes
We disable all log truncating (SQL and Oracle) and set it to copy only, this way it only backs up the logs and lets the DBAs remove the logs as they do their backups.
