Hi
We're planning to take back some servers from Azure to on premise ESXi environment. Can we setup a Veeam proxy in Azure and install WAN accelerator and then use Veeam to replicate VMs to ESX enviroment on premise?
I know this si s long shot but worth a question....

Re: USe Veeam to replicate FROM Azure to On Premise
Hi Mats,
Microsoft does not expose virtualization layer access to Azure customers, thus we cannot perform VM-level replication. However, you can use Veeam Agent for Windows\Linux to backup said Azure VMs and replicate it's backups to on-premises environment, where you can restore from those Azure backups to Physical servers, Hyper-V VMs and vSphere VMs(in VBR v10 that is coming soon).
If you need it _right now_ and cannot wait for v10, than you can convert same backups into VMDKs and attach those VMDK disks to manually created VMs on premises.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Egor, so replicate directly from BM in Azure I need to wait for v10 so we can do VM snapshot in Azure?

No, there will be no snapshots in Azure still. However, Veeam Backup and Replication v10 will add "Restore any backup to vSphere ESXi VM" functionality - so you will be able to restore from Azure backups directly to your on-premises ESXi easily with 1 simple wizard. Whole process will look like this:
- backup Azure VM with Veeam Agent (scheduled Backup Job)
- periodically copy backups from the cloud to an on-premises storage (scheduled Backup Copy Job)
- in case of disaster, run Veeam Instant Restore to vSphere ESXi
/Thanks!

Re: USe Veeam to replicate FROM Azure to On Premise
At Microsoft Ignite we announced Veeam Backup for Azure which orchestrates native snapshots of Azure VMs, and then can copy those into traditional Veeam backup files sitting in Azure Blob storage. That Azure Blob repo can then be added as an External Repo into VBR (in v10) which would allow you to do a Backup Copy Job of the VM to a local repo. I believe those backups can then be restored into your VMware environment and possibly even automated via PowerShell giving you a pseudo-replication from Azure to VMware.
