Re: Using Veeam to backup VMs on a NFS Datastore

Post by pcrebe »

Hi,
All problems with VMs on NFS datastore can be resolved with v7 patch 3 and EnableSameHostHotaddMode, naturally with one proxy on every hosts.

More advertise on this feature would be most helpful.

Thanks

pity that having a proxy on every host maybe an expensive option, because you'll need a Windows VM per host, and they need licenses.

I have a cluster with all linux machines on a NFS datastore and never had issues at the moment.
I guess that in case of "accidents" i will have to force all backups in network mode only... or, maybe, i'd better to do this anyway to be safer...

Hi,
My problems were:
- CBT random errors, so the job had a long backup window
- Ping timeout during snapshot commit that it did lose the connection to the terminal server
After the upgrade to patch #3 and EnableSameHostHotaddMode all resolved

I find network backup mode the safest anyway for small deployments. I've seen too many go wrong with the HOT ADD solution where the proxy is also a production VM that has to be backed up. Snapshots being made on VM's where a disk was still hot added and such ...
