v12.1 SAP HANA plugin backup files

Post by Krids »

Hello.

We have VBR 12.1 server and test SAP HANA plugin. We observe what all created backup's (no matter log backup or data backups) writed on repository (RHEL 8.3, xfs) only into one file 5f2408e4-0323-455f-8b87-2a1ec0a35ea4.vab (it constantly increase in size)

On VBR 11.1 all backups writed to individual .vab files named as EBID of related backup in SAP HANA

Why so different in v12.1 ? And how to switch to v11.1 backup files writing schema ?

Best regards,
Dmitry

Look's like this behavior changed in 12.1 :

Starting from Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1, Veeam Plug-in can also reuse backup files by placing multiple backups in a single .VAB file. This approach helps with optimizing the number of objects in the backup database. Veeam Plug-in reuses backup files considering the following backup file limits:

Backup file can contain up to 1000 objects.
Veeam Plug-in can write data to the created backup file for 24 hours.

Yes, this is documented in the What's New in 12.1 (see Help Center), including the why.

Is it possible to return to version 11.1 format with individual backup files?
The issue of backup availability is also confusing: if the .vab file is damaged, then we lose, for example, all the HANA log backups for the day

No, it's not possible. It did not scale so we will not maintain it.

Our support will be able to recover all logs from undamaged parts of the VAB file, so it's not much different in terms of data loss scope.
