vCloud Backup by tag/metadata - Feature Request

Post by mamosorre84 »

Hi,

is it possible to integrate vSphere tags or vCloud Director metadata for vCloud Director jobs?

I find very useful using that for "automating" standard vSphere backups.

Thanks

Hi, Marco. For vCloud Director, the protection is usually managed on vApp level. And as far as I know, you cannot assign vSphere tags to vCloud Director vApps. Do you have a different information? Thanks!

Hi Gostev,

maybe I had to make the request to VMWare!

Kidding aside, I know there are no tags on vCloud, I don't know if it is possible to set some other property/metadata that Veeam is able to read.

The need arises from the fact that if I have predefined backup policies, with tags the process of adding a new VM under backup is automatic.

With vCloud Director, on the other hand, I have to manually add each new vApp that I need to protect on Veeam.

Also, I may need to have different backup policies within the same vApp, and need to do different jobs and manage exclusions on Veeam.

I do not know if I have explained myself, and if you have already faced this type of need, solving for example with some powershell script.. :?:

Thanks

Absolutely, most of our larger service providers are solving this issue with full automation of job configuration.
