VCSA Backcup

Post by LEWISF »

Hello -

We have two linked vCenters (management and workload).

I have two jobs in VBR.

One is sourced for the vCenter DNS for the management domain mgtp01.anyname.ca.com. This job backs up about 22 VMs including the VM for the VCSA in the workload domain

The second job as its source uses the VM VCSA in the workload domain, so it only backs up a single VM.

As part of the cleanup of our environment, I realized that the workload domain VCSA VM was being backed up 2x. The VM is seen in the mgmt domain job and in its own job. To me this is unnecessary.

However, in doing some Googling, I found this KB from Veeam - https://www.veeam.com/kb2328 which says it's no longer recommended to do image level backups of the VCSAs.

So now I'm wondering if I should remove the 2nd job which is backing up the VCSA VM in the workload domain and remove it from the 1st job doing the management domain?

Or, should I just repoint the target for the workload domain job to the DNS for the workload domain wkld.anyname.ca.com?
