Veeam 12 and ESX8.0c - VVOL backup not working

Post by wilhelmsch26 »

HI All,

We recently upgraded our vsphere cluster to v8 - currently on the latest build. All our servers are located on VVOLS backed by a DELL POWERSTORE all flash array. While on v11 we used a on cluster proxy for hot-add without issue. Since we upgraded to v12 hot-add no longer works.

Support case with veeam logged: Case # 06022337

If i click on the proxy and select "specific volumes only" veeam does not list my VVOL volume, however when looking generally at available storage it is shown.

Proxy #1: Ubuntu VM, vm storage (VVOL FC)
Proxy #2: Windows VM, vm storage (SCSCI FC)

Currently my backups are failing over to NBD, but since there are some large VMs the backups are now taking 24 hours to complete instead of 30 minutes.

Anyone have any ideas for what i can try.

Hello Wilhelm

I see from the case notes that you have downgraded your backup server to V11a.
You can deploy a V12 server on a new VM for testing backups from VVOL.
Please make sure to use the latest build available:

For now I recommend to keep working within your support case. Guessing the issue over the forum is difficult. You can always escalate the case if required:

Hi Fabian - deploying on a new VM works, but upgrading causes VEEAM to think that it can backup VVOLS... so i dont know what to do
