Veeam 9.0 Free backup/restore to QNAP TVS-EC2480U?
Hi everyone.
This area is not my expertise, so i apoligise in advance if this topic has been covered or this is a simple fix.
I have just installed a new QNAP TVS-EC2480U with 8x 4TB hard disks configured running RAID 6 to backup my VM farm consisting of 8x ESXi 5.5 hosts running approx 100 VM's to just get a saftey backup of the VM's off our SAN using Veeam 9.0 backup Free Edition. All data form the servers are backed up to tape.
I installed a 2012 R2 Server with the Free version of Veam 9.0 and mapped a drive back to a volume on the QNAP server. My issue is though, on the free version I cannot see how to add the QNAP as a backup repository, i did manage to perform a backup by entering the network path and credentials for access to the volume on the QNAP and this worked fine, and this is how i have done it in the past using older verions of Veeam. But, when it come to me doing a test a restore, I cannot access the QNAP in anyway, the restore wizard will not allow me to see the mapped drive to the QNAP server? The only way i could successfully restore was to copy the vm backup to the C: of the 2102 r2 server that has Veeam installed?
Does anybody know if you simply cannot add the QNAP as a backup/restore repository in the Free version, as it looks simple in the Enterprise version, but i cannot see the options in the free version.
Many Thanks in advance for any help received.

Honestly I've never encountered this error before, so it might be worth reaching our support team directly (yep, even owners of free products are eligible for support). Thanks.

In Veeam Backup Free Edition, you cannot configure backup proxies and backup repositories and point a VeeamZIP job to them.bewales wrote:My issue is though, on the free version I cannot see how to add the QNAP as a backup repository

I had the same issue. I fixed it the following way:
1. View, Full functionality (advanced)
2. Import Backup browse to Network Share
3. Restore the VM. It just seems that the free functionality causes the bug.

How do you expose the QNAP-Volume to the Windows Server? SMB, NFS or iSCSI?
