Veeam B&R 5 run script SLES
With Veeam B&R 5 I can run scripts before and after an backup job in a Windows environment, but is this possible to run an .sh script in a Suse Linux Enterprise environment?

I believe yes, you should be able to do it by means of VMware Tools pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply, i can find solutions for Oracle but only in an Windows environment because it uses an VSS component in combination with pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts, but i haven't find something usefull for the situation Oracle and Linux.

Hmm...what about this one - Quiesce a Linux Progress Database with Veeam Backup? This should give you a basic idea of how to trigger those scripts, as to Oracle-specific examples, sorry but I cannot help you with this, though I'm pretty sure there are plenty existing discussions on Oracle Community forums, check them out.

Re: Veeam B&R 5 run script SLES
Im trying to get an script running, this is what i've configured (correct me if im wrong).
1. Installed VMtools on the SLES 10 server.
2. create an pre-freeze-script and post-thaw-script located in:
/usr/sbin/post-thaw-script
/usr/sbin/pre-freeze-script
But how to I activate this script to set the database in standby modus from the Veeam job.
Do i need to "Enable VMware tools quiescence" under "Advanced Settings" -> "Advanced"?

Yes, VMware Tools Quiescence should be enabled for this VM, in this case pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts will be triggered automatically.
If you want to verify this workflow without running Veeam backup job, just use vSphere Client to create snapshot with quiescence enabled.

I shall test this setup, the only thing that's strange in my eyes that you don't have to set an extension after the file name.

Hi yrrah,
you must change the script files extension!
http://forums.veeam.com/viewtopic.php?f ... ols#p31929
"don't forget to make the scripts executable"
I've tried to write you a PM but I'm just registered to this forum and I can't do it, can you please contact me?

Best way to backup SLES 11 with Oracle 11.2.0.3
[merged]
Hi,
I have to backup VMs running SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 with Oracle 11.2.0.3
What's the best setting to do that ? Shutdown the database and run the backup ? Leave the database up and enable VSS ? Vmware Tools quiescence ?
Thanks !
Regards,
Eric.

Hi, I have no experience on this scenario, but for sure you cannot use VSS since it's a windows feature. I read in other threads you can do this with some scripting to manage Oracle log truncation prior to backup, like this for example: Backup SAP Oracle vServer
