Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
Hello, we are experiencing issues with Windows Server Backup after installing Veeam B&R on multiple servers.
As soon as we install & configure Veeam, Windows Server Backup starts to fail after 1-2 days.
This has been happening since November/December.
Other servers that are backed up by Veeam, but Veeam is not installed directly on them, do not have problems with Windows Backup.
This is happening across multiple company environments - only on servers that have both Veeam installed and Windows Backup configured.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Re: Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
Hi,
when you say where both Veeam and Windows Backup are installed you meand that Veeam Backup & Replication is installed or the Veeam Agent?
Or do you have a distributed environment with multiple Veeam Backup & Replication Servers?
Tyring to understand what exactly your environment looks like.
Thanks

Re: Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
Hello,
@wierka32 It's worth opening a case with Microsoft support as well and to clarify the exact root cause with them. The fact that our components are installed on the same server where Windows Server Backup is running might be helpful for troubleshooting but I think it would be better to involve a team which is directly responsible for this product.
Also, as Stefan correctly noticed, why do you install Veeam B&R on workloads that you're going to protect? It's enough to have just a single server which can manage backup jobs of vSphere VMs. Please have a look at this guide. One more detail which might be crucial: why do yo use two different backup applications to protect the same workloads?
Thanks!

Re: Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
Hi,
I meant Veeam Backup & Replication installed.
It is always installed only on one VM and backups all other VMs and itself.
However Windows Backup stopped working on VM with Veeam B&R installed. Windows backups do work correctly until Veeam installed.
This used to work without problem until recently. Windows Backup time schedule and Veeam are different, of course.

Thanks for clarifications, I suggest to wait for what our engineers can find out and to ask Microsoft support team to help with troubleshooting if you have such an option.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Still no update on the case, Windows Backups keep failing on ESXi installed Windows Servers with Veeam Backup & Replication.
Installed Hyper-V with Veeam & Windows Backup and did not experience this problem at all.

Re: Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
hi,
can you please double check the case ID you provided.
The one you posted here was already closed days before you posted here.
If the problem still exists I would recommend to open the case again.
Do you have any log from Windows Backup (events log maybe) that says why it is failing?
Also, can you please clarify which license you use on the VBR?
Thanks

Re: Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
Windows Backup says: There was a failure in preparing the backup image of one of the volumes.
Backup of volume C: has failed. The mounted backup volume is inaccessible. Please retry the operation.
Crashed after backing up EFI, when starting backup of disk C.
This happens mainly with Veeam Community edition - but we do not have Windows Backup set-up at clients with paid Veeam, so we cannot check this correlation.

Re: Veeam B&R and Windows Server Backup
To be honest, to me it seems like a issue with Windows itself.
Did you also contact Microsoft (even in the forum) about this issue?
it will be hard to troubleshoot here without further details.
So my advice is:
- open again a case at Veeam support
- contact Microsoft on their forums to check if there is anything known
After some research it can be lot of different things (starting from FS corruption up to software installed on the server and firewall topics).
