Veeam B&R for Atlassian suite vm

Im currently managing a vmware vm that has Atlassian Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket on a linux vm. I want to use Veeam Backup and Recovery to backup that vm so that I can perform an upgrade and revert back if i need to. When I tried to backup, it froze the vm for about an hour. Seems like it crashed while trying to create a snapshot. For Atlassian products, should I enable "Application-Aware processing"? How would i determine what caused the issue? not sure if its related to Atlassian or my vmware 6.0 environment.
