Veeam Backup Proxy Linux ISO file

Post by Backup.Operator »

With the latest VBR v13 Linux appliance release, is there any Linux ISO file I can deploy as the Veeam Backup proxy?

There's indeed, please review the What's New in V13 document for details.

Hey
VMware backup proxies can be deployed using the Veeam JeOS same for General proxy.
That a good point !

But we must configure the VM with minimum two 120 GiB disks for Operating System and Product Installation. For a proxy server, I find that a bit extreme, considering it's simply a component that transfers datas

Who cares, just set the VM disks to use thin-provisioning and forget about the whole issue.

Hmm ok, I agree, that was the first idea that came to my mind.
It just needs to ensure that the disks don't fill up completely for reason X or Y...

Yes, you will see the dedicated option for that when deploying VIA.

Unlike iSCSI, FC does not require any additional software on the proxy, it just works.

How do you set one up with your FC storage on Linux-based proxies today with V12? If you can share the process, then I should be able to say if it's going to work with VIA as well.

@gostev can you clarify this a bit please?

V13 release notes says: Backup proxy on Linux — You can now deploy general-purpose backup proxies on Linux OS (including
Veeam JeOS) to enable unstructured data backup in fully Linux-based backup infrastructures. This
includes support for backing up SMB and NFS file shares, as well as NetApp filers including SnapDiff v3
integration and FlexGroup support.

  • Where does one obtain the ISO/OVA for a linux proxy, is it part of the Veeam Software Appliance?
  • Can this Linux proxy be used for general purpose scenarios where the VBR runs Windows?

Hi all,

1) Check the availability Veeam Services which can be deployed/managed with the .ISO (JeOS) File: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/u ... tml?ver=13
2) Check Download section: You can choose the Software Appliance ISO and you can switch to "Extensions and other" to Download Veeam Infrastructure Appliance and Veeam Console v13.
3) Veeam Software Appliance can deploy: Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Enterprise Manager, UEFI Firmware Settings.
4) Veeam Infrastructure Appliance can deploy: Veeam Hardenend Repository, Proxie,... (Check 1) )

@Veeam: Why you dont put all new v13 Stuff on a extra nice and structed Download Page?

Best regards,
Parzi

Because it's not GA yet. For now the main offering remains VDP V12, therefore all download experience is structured around it. While VSA V13 is an early release for enthusiasts to play with, so it's quite on a side by design.

Yes but this requires V13 VBR on Windows that is not GA yet.

Never used Linux proxy for direct san, only Linux servers with backend storage (for big Veeam repo), multipath.conf file tunning to adapt to storage vendor (and lvm.conf filter).
But I think it should work OOB for proxy, if not, we can deploy a full Linux that is customizable, instead of VIA.
