Veeam Backup Server Sizing
Hello,
i have following Environment:
10x ESXi 5.5 Hosts
1x EMC VNX FC Storage
80x VMs (95% Windows OS, 5% Linux)
My ESXi Hosts and my EMC VNX Storage are connected together with a 8GB/s FC Switch Infrastructure.
My Needs:
- Direct-SAN Backup
- minimum 6 Concurrent Jobs
- No Replication needed
- Tape-Offloading
My Server will be a single Hardware Machine with direct attach to my SAN. Additionally i plan to attach a HP StoreEver MSL2024 Tape Library for Tape-Offloading.
I read the System Requirements. Because i will install all Veeam Roles (Backup Server, VMware Backup Proxy, Enterprise Manager, etc.) i am not sure how much CPU and RAM Ressources i should use. Please give me a feedback what i should use.
Thanks.
Kind Regards
Marco

Re: Veeam Backup Server Sizing
Marco, if you are going to assign several roles to a single Veeam B&R management server, then corresponding system requirements should be summed up. Note, that system requirements for Veeam B&R backup server are given with default proxy server (which is installed as a part of Veeam B&R installation) in mind.

One off-topic question:
I read SQL Express is only for a small-scale Production Environment. Is my Environment "small-scale"?

Yes, SQL Express is fine for environments up to 500 VMs.

[MERGED] When should you not use SQL express?
The installation guide suggests using SQL express only for "small environments" and using a full sql instance when you have "a lot of vms". Is there a more specific recommendation on when you should switch to a full sql server?

BTW, what is your virtual infrastructure size and how often do you want to run your jobs?
