Veeam BR and Windows Server Backup

Post by marius roma »

I need to use the same Windows Server 2008 R2 host to run either Veeam Backup and Replica (to backup an replicate VMs hoste by my vSphere infrastructure) and Windows Server Backup (the standard backup included in Windows server 2008 R2)to backup the contents of some shared directories hosted by a NAS.
Is there any known problem using the same server for different backup processes managed by Veeam BR and Windows Server Backup?
Shoul I consider any possible problem?
By the way, the Windows server 2008 R2 server is a VM.

from a technical standpoint I do not see any problem. But I would check for possible problems in disk I/O having two backup activities on the same server. Are they going to run at the same time?

Thank you for the message.
If there is no known issue I can schedule the jobs to run at different times.

Most NAS boxes do iSCSI?... Why dont you just mount it as a iSCSI target and then include it in your Veeam Backup?...

Just a thought...

Yes, it can also be a good choice. Remember anyhow that in this way, the NAS would be formatted in NTFS directly by the repository server and thus to be accessed, if the Veeam server fails, it would need to be connected to another iscsi initiator. Using directly SMB on the NAS its shares can be accessed by any server in the network, so a failure recovery would be faster.
