veeam esx networking

Post by kornelg »

hello,
i have a demo esx(not added in production vcenter) at 10.x network and the prduction is at 12.x.
at 10.x network it is connected switch-nic1(gate) and production switch-nic 2(gate).these are routed.
the gateway 10.254 and for the production 12.254.
i can add the demo esx as server in veeam but i cant mount the vm that i want to test through vpowernfs.unable to mount.
should i add a vmkport in esx at 12.network?i have only the mgmt port at demo esx!

Hello John,

Yes, vmkernel interface should also be present on your ESXi host to be able to mount NFS datastores. See this existing thread for further info > Instant Recovery fails to mount vPower NFS datastore

Thank you!

but it is done through routing.i have added the server in veeam.they see each other!
the routing for vmk port is not working at this case?
ok ill try to add the vmkport at the subnet where our production exists!
or can i connect a nic from demoesx direct at the physical switch where prod network is?

Your backup server/repository should be on the same network as vmKernel interface of the ESX(i) host.

As an addition, is usually a BAD practice to route IP storage traffic, regardless is iSCSI or NFS, routing activities add too much latency. VMware officially does not support routed IP storage.
