Veeam Free and Exchange 2003
Hi to all.
I installed Veeam Free Backup 6.5 to backup my virtual Exchange2003 server. I've setting vcenter name in Veeam config.
I would like to shutdown the server before doing the backup (VeeamZIP) and then power on to complete backup. All in automatic and scheduled.
In this way, my backup is correct and should have no problem in case of restore.
It's possible?
Thanks to all.

Hi
our Backup free Edition has no scheduler, so you need to buy Standard or Enterprise Edition.
To have a consistent backup with Backup free (manual backup start) you do not need to schutdown the server. => VSS
With Free Edition you can have manual backup, file restore and VM restore.
With Standard Edition on top a scheduler and Instant VM Recovery (and more)
and with Enterprise Edition on top single mail recovery with our U-AIR Exchange Restore Wizard.

Re: Veeam Free and Exchange 2003
if I schedule a File Copy, this process can be considered as consistent backup?

Re: Veeam Free and Exchange 2003
sorry, I got you wrong.
File copy of vmdk's for example can only be done consistend when vm is offline (shutdown)
With Veeam ZIP you can have consisten backs online and offline, but with free edition veeam zip isn't schedulable.

Re: Veeam Free and Exchange 2003
If you are ok with shutting your Exchange server down and performing a full VM copy (no incrementals) each time during backup, also with storing backups uncompressed - you can use File Copy job, however, this is extremely inefficient. File Copy jobs are designed to copy files, not to backup VMs. Please review the description of all job types in the sticky FAQ. To have a consistent backup of running VM, you need to use backup or replication jobs.
