Veeam Proxies with NetApp Storage?

Post by jbarrow.viracoribt »

Question:

We currently use an HP P2000 SAN and replicate to another HP P2000 SAN using Veeam. We use a Physical proxy server to mount disks and send the data over to the DR site.

We just purchased an NetApp FAS820 and plan to replicate it to another FAS8020.

Does using the built-in SnapMirror and SnapReplicate technology replace Veeam?
If not, if Veeam is still useful, do you still have the need for a Proxy server since the SAN will be doing the volume based snapshots and the proxy will no longer be mounting "disks" so to speak? (if I have that correct)

I'm just curious how and if I would utilize Veeam with this new hardware.

Hi Jonathan,

Yes, Veeam will still come in handy in this configuration. Please check out this blog post for more info > http://www.veeam.com/blog/veeam-to-offe ... etapp.html

Thanks!

But are proxies still needed if the heavy lifting is now handled by the SnapMirror/SnapVault features within the SAN?

Yes, Veeam proxy servers are always needed when you're planning to use Veeam backup jobs.
