Wondering how other people patch proxies, when backups and replicas run 24/7.
Do they just disable and wait for it to be cleared? Seems inefficient but can't really see another way of doing it.

We use a policy to download patches but not install and then during the day which are our quietest hours we will disable 1 or 2 at a time and patch them.
We also have a scheduled maintenance window where we patch the main infrastructure, So you could go that approach and do it all in one go.
