Veeam Replication - enabling vTPM with existing restore points

Post by RegEdit714 »

Hello,

Currently replicating our VMware VMs offsite and keeping 7 restore points. We are looking to enable vTPM on the VM's. In regards to the existing replication jobs, would we need to delete all restore points (Delete the replica) and run the job again as a full after enabling vTPM? Or would this not matter.

Thank you!

Hi Steve,

A fresh job/replica is the way to go here. You must target a datastore with the correct encryption policy to replicate encrypted VMs, and that will mean editing the job to a "new" location. This will result in a new replica in most situations, so it's best to just start fresh here.

Hmm..... Win11 with vTPM != Encrypted Disks. Maybe Steve can confirm if he works with encrypted Disks or just Win11 vTPM/Uefi,Secureboot.

It does not really matter if the disk was encrypted or not, it leverages the encryption service from VMware and so you need to initialize all this during the initial replication.
Anyway you can test it with a small test VM to see how it works and then decide how you want to migrate.
