Veeam reports disk Consolidation needed - but vSphere doesn't allow it
I use Veeam to backup my Windows 10 VDI instant-clone reference VM. For a while now, Veeam is reporting that disk consolidation is needed on this VM. The option is grayed out in vSphere. I've tried it via PowerCLI, and which didn't stop the error.
How can I stop Veeam from doing this? Or fix the problem?

The issue here is that VMware vcenter do not have the information about the snapshots but there are files on the storage side. You can try to create a vm snapshot manually and then use consolidation. This should solve it.

Re: Veeam reports disk Consolidation needed - but vSphere doesn't allow it
Hi lightsout
I had a similar issue and was advised to try the following
https://www.veeam.com/kb1773
Once the old entries were removed the hard disks could be re-mapped and consolidate wasn't needed.
Regards

In the end, I just restored it from backup. Seems happy again now, but not sure what happened and why.
