Veeam v8 B&R New warning messages

Post by oli4 »

Hello all

since we updated to Veeam 8 we are getting warning messages when a VM either has:

- a snapshot -> Changed block tracking cannot be enabled: one or more snapshots present
- or has no VMware tools -> Cannot use VMware Tools quiescence because VMware Tools are not found
- or the Backup job is empty

Is there a possibility how we can configure that, as we don't want this kind of warnings.

Thanks

Regards

Hi Oli4,

In order to remove these warning messages, you can disable CBT and VMware Tools quiescence in the backup job, but keep in mind it will be disabled for all VMs in the job. On a side note, do not follow your last statement. What is an empty backup job?

Thanks!

Hi Vitaly

We have a folder structure with a backup job for each folder, so we only need to put a VM into the folder and it will be backuped. We are building this structure in advance, so sometimes there are jobs that nothing have to backup.

Disable CBT and VMware tools quiescence is no option, as the most VMs do not have a snapshot and have the VMware tools installed. We only want to suppress this warnings, as it was in V7.

As regards the VMware Tools warning message, then please take a look at this existing topic for more details > Disable VMware Tools not found warning

Is there any reason why you don't want to enable CBT on the VMs, so that you backup jobs start to take less time to process all VMs?

Of cource we have CBT enabled, but if the VM has for some reason a snapshot during backup, CBT fails and creates a warning:

Changed block tracking cannot be enabled: one or more snapshots present

This three kind of warnings didn't occurred with v7 and we only want to turn it off again.

CBT can be enabled even if you have snapshots present on the VMs. This capability is available either in vSphere 5.1 or vSphere 5.5, do not remember. What version of ESXi host are you running now?

P.S. btw, do you plan to remove these snapshots? Do you have these snapshots on production VMs?

Of course those VMs have CBT enabled. But sometimes users makes snapshots from VMs because they install/uninstall/upgrade software and this snapshot stays over a night or two.

We only are not happy with the new warnings.....

If CBT is enabled once, all subsequent actions like snapshot creation cannot disable it.
