Virtual B&R server on VMXNET3 nic?
Hi,
We run our B&R server as a VM and our host to storage networking is all 10Gb.
It has just occurred to me that the the B&R vm is using the 1Gb E1000E virtual NIC.
Is there any benefit to changing this to the 10Gb VMXNET3?
Ta

Hi,
It depends on your backup infrastructure architecture. For example, if you use VBR as a backup proxy and the repository server is on 10Gb network then changing NIC to 10GB will benefit you. Please provide more details.
Thanks

The repository is a Synology NAS on 10Gb (primarily an iSCSI LUN but also a CIFS share)

Then, if the VBR server is also a backup proxy and gateway server for the repository, moving it to 10Gb should eliminate 1Gb bottleneck between proxy and repository. However, it won't help if 1Gb link is uitilized somewhere else on the dataflow path, for example if you use NBD mode and the connection between proxy and hosts is on 1Gb.
Thanks

Thanks.
All the network connections in the path are 10Gb but I think most of the VMs that it backs up are going to use the 1Gb virutal NIC. I figured that as the Veeam server will be processing 4 or more at a time in the backup job, that upgrading that one to the 10Gb NIC might be useful and might allow me to increase the number it processes at any one time (up to the point when the resources are hitting their limits).

Do you have a separate backup proxy, or you combine both VBR server and proxy roles in one VM?but I think most of the VMs that it backs up are going to use the 1Gb virutal NIC
Thanks
