Backing up rebuilt server

Post by michaelryancook »

Sorry if this has been addressed but my search terms were not getting any results.

What would be the proper method of re-adding a server to a backup job after it was rebuilt? We had a 2012 R2 server in a backup job when the developers requested it be rebuilt as 2008 R2. After rebuilding the backup failed on that server saying it had been deleted. I'm not surprised by this as I am assuming it uses a GUID or something as the identifier rather than the name. Can I simply remove the server from the job, save the job, then add the server back in and save again? I don't want to lose the existing backups in case the change their mind or need something restored.

TIA

Michael

Hello Michael,
Correct, you can just delete and add back the rebuilt VM.
Also, adding VM containers instead of VM themselves into the jobs can help you avoid doing these steps next time.
Thanks.

Hi Nikita. Thank you for the quick response as well as the container tip. I will look at going that route or using tags going forward.
