vmware snapshot consolidation permissions

Post by liorme »

hi
i'm trying to harden vmware permissions for veeam
i've created a role based on information i've found. but it seems that the only problem is consolidating snapshots
after the veeam backup or replication is complete, the vm remains in "needs consolidation" state. which permission am i missing that is needed for this action?

thank you

Hi Lior

Have you followed the official veeam guide?
„Create snapshot / Remove snapshot“ will work for snapshot consolidation too.

This are the required permission for the backup tasks:

thank you. i already have them selected on the role, and the snapshot creation and removal is in fact working, but consolidating isn't. must be another type of action/permission

Something else must be going on, cause the privilege need for snapshot consolidation is "Virtual machine.Snapshot management.Remove Snapshot". Thanks!

What happens if you remove Veeam out of the equation, log in to vSphere Client with the said user, select the VM, create a snapshot, keep it long enough to simulate the job run and try to commit it, will consolidation warning pop up or not? Thanks!

Make sure you have CBT enabled on the hosts that you are backing up. There seems to be a VMware bug on 7.02 version of VVMware that doesnt enable CBT when the hosts are rebooted.

I‘m not aware, that enabling cbt will help in this case.
CBT is not directly connected to snapshot consolidation.
