Vmware tools needed

Post by aca »

Hi

My predecessor didn't install vmware tools on several VM (including DC running under 2008R2). Vsphere is running 4.0 version (not 4.1 !)

- Can i use B&R toi back-up those vms even if vmware tools aren't installed ?
- I have a VM (with vm tools) with exchange 2010 SP 1 (under 2008R2) , is it safe to backup with B&R since B&R uses snapshots mechanisms to backup ?

Thanks for your help

Clement, VMware Tools are required for backup with application-aware image processing enabled (which is required to safely backup Exchange Server). Please read about application-aware image processing in our sticky FAQ. Thanks.

It's always better to use "application aware image processing" that comes with Veeam B&R to backup highly transactional VMs such as Exchange, SQL Server etc.
