vSphere Veeam PlugIn connection problems

Post by Thorsten.Pfeifer »

Hi Folks,

we are runnung B&R v9 with Ent Mgr and vSpehre vCenter/Web Client v6.0.x
I get following error (Server error: Session expired) when configuring the needed settings (hostname, restful API base url, certificate) to get it connected. In Veeam Ent Mgr in section vCenter Server it looks fine, Plug-in Status is installed.
Thanks for any hints.

Cheers
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

Try to restart the vCenter Web Client Service. If you're using vCenter server on a Windows machine, this cane be done using services.msc; for the vCSA use vCenter Management web page. If this doesn't help, then please contact our technical team for further assistance.

Thanks!

Hey,

we have the same Problem. On vCenter 5.5 (Windows Maschine) with Enterprise Manager 9.5 it worked without any Problems.
Now we migrated to vCenter 6.0 Appliance (latest Version) we always got the the same Error. Tried to uninstall and re-install the Plugin and also the Enterprise Manager several times, but it doesnt work.

BTW: There should also be a notification that you have to start vsphere web client with Port 9443 otherwise the Plugin fails to load.

Any Updates on this?

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

Did you restart vCenter Server services after uninstalling the plug-in?

Thanks!

Hi...did anyone figure out this issue? I just migrated vCenter 5.5 windows to VCSA 6.0 Update 3. I reinstalled the plugin after migration. On Enterprise Manager is shows installed as plug-in version 9.5.0.711. The odd thing is that the vCenter version still shows as 5.5.0.3252642 when it is now version 6.0 U3. In the vCenter web client I get two errors when I go to the Veeam plugin. On he Summary tab I get Server error: Session expired and on the Settings tab I get Server error: Failed to get applications settings. and settings are empty. Thanks.
Thank you,
Kent

Did you remove the vSphere plug-in from EM before migration to the new vCenter Server?

Hi,

i've got the same problem...VCSA 6U3 (6.0.0.30100) an BEM 9.5 (9.5.0.823)
Plugin registration is no problem and everything seems to be fine. In vsphere web client veeam overview ist empty and message "Server error: Session expired" pop up shows up. Settings are empty...after completing settings and saving them, the same pop up is shown "Server error: Session expired".
Time settings of BEM Server and VCSA are equal.

Did anybody solve the problem until now?

Hi braun,

Unfortunately, the previous poster didn't mention his support case ID, so I cannot update this topic with a solution. Can you contact our technical team and let us know your case ID as a reference for other community members?

Thanks!

I have a similar issue like this as well with Veeam 9.5 Update 2 and VCSA 6.5D. The plugin installs but when selecting it I get a connection timeout constantly. Tried all things in KB even the cleanup tips.

Case is SR # 02142384 which has been escalated to Tier2.

I have the same issue on VCSA 6.0 but not on VCSA 6.5. I saw few other posters above have reported that the issue wasn't there with 5.5 and happened only after upgrade to 6.0.
Is the issue specific to some VCSA 6.0 build? Has anyone of you got any feedback or workaround from Veeam support?

Hello,

Please can you contact our support team to investigate the issue and share the case ID number here.
They can request you to collect additional logs and then I will discuss it with the QA team and probably that will help us to find a solution. Thanks!

I have just logged a support job with this issue. I keep getting an error message, "Server error:Session Expired" when I try to fill in the details for the veeam plugin in Vcentre web client. It' won't save the details and therefore is not working. I now await a reply from Veeam support. The case ID is: 02201507.

Hi!
Same here: Server error: Session expired, when entering settings into Veeam B&R Plugin. Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 U2 (9.5.0.1038) on vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.0.30200 Build Number 5326079
Is it possible to test the connectivity somehow?
All the best, Kletool

Did anyone ever have a resolution to this? I tried multiple times installing and removing, rebooting between each, but I always get Server Error: Session Expired. I have tried installing it with multiple users and signing in as the same users.

I am on vCenter Appliance version 6.0.0.30200

After a brief discussion QA team confirmed the bug and told me it has been fixed in the upcoming update 3.
However, if you don't want to wait till next update, you can contact the support team, they should have a workaround. Thanks!

Hello DGrinev , does the 9.5 Update 3 released 12-18-2017 fix the Plugin issue as I did not see it in the release notes? https://www.veeam.com/kb2353

Hi,

just to add a probably different (or in the backend the same) case.

- neither vsphere-client nor web-client plugin was able to connect to enterprise manager (vSphere 6.7U1 and B&R 9.5U3a)
- Remote server's certificate thumbprint does not match the thumbprint stored in the application settings in /var/log/vmware/vsphere-ui/logs/vsphere_client_virgo.log (vCenter Server Appliance)

Followed https://www.veeam.com/kb1849 part: RestAPI certificate change to solve successfully

Erich
