vSphere5 unable to Run direct SAN job

Post by B_J »

Hello.
I am new to Veeam and have purshased B&R Essentials plus.

My VMware environment:
2 ESXi5 servers connected to a Dell MD3200i iSCSI rack thru 2 iscsi switches.
vCenter server is vmware's own appliance (SuSe linux), running on one of the hosts.

Backup server is a physical win 2003 server.

For almost a week now i have tried o get direct SAN backup going but with no luck.
Tried to backup the vCenter server and a testserver running 2003 server.
Problem is the "good old"
"Unable to establish direct connection to the shared storage (SAN)."

I have the SAN disks connected via iSCSI initiator and they show nicely in disk management.

Have opened up a support case, #5154854 but nothing of result so far.

I was adviced to try the vcbsandbg-tool (got it from veem support) to determine if backup server can se the vmfs-signatures, and it sadly can't.
This is where i know that you like me to contacy SAN vendor for support and so i have, they haven't been able to come up with anything so far :(

Then i saw the forum post about VMFS-5 compability, i have indeed version 5.0.2.230 of B&R software.
Could this be a possibe cause, could the released patch help me?
How about vcbsandbg, should it be able see VMFS-5 signatures?

Any help would be greatly appriciated i'm starting to get a litte desperate.

Hi - yes, VMFS-5 compability requires 5.0.2.230 and vSphere 5 support patch installed on top of it.

Just trying to establish If the only problem is missing the patch...

Hi Bjorn,

Since VCB does not support vSphere 5, vcbsandbg might not able to see vmfs5 signatures. As to the patch, then you can obtain it through our support team.

Thanks!

Thank you for your info.
Patch did the job so evidently vcbsandbg can't see vmfs5 signatures.

Yes, open a new ticket to get the patch. PMs are not allowed if you have zero posts.
