VSSControl error (Support Case ID: 03527309)

Hello Veeam Team,

My backup job errors out, for one VM, the following message:

"Failed to prepare guest for hot backup. Error: VSSControl: -2147024882 Cannot subscribe the freeze writer with VSS COM error: Code: 0x8007000e
Error: VSSControl: -2147024882 Cannot subscribe the freeze writer with VSS COM error: Code: 0x8007000e"

The vm is a Windows Server 2003 Standard (32-bit), resides on a ESXi host 6.5, 9298722

Hi Theodore,

Could you please check if your guest application and corresponding OS version are supported? Note the SP versions.

Specifically, for Windows Server 2003 you need at least SP1 for application-aware image processing to work.

Hi Theodore,

It's definitely some problem with VSS. I'd recommend investigating it with Microsoft or you can dig into VSS writer event logs on your own.

Btw, what applications do you have running inside of the guest OS?

It's a print server for SAP (it's running saplpd.exe)

I believe this is the case you can simply disable AAIP as a workaround since this application is not supported - check here. You may give VMware Tools Quiescence a try.

Sorry for my delayed reply. The problem has resolved with disabling AAIP and using VMware Tools Quiescence.
