Why combine Veeam production and test backup systems?
Currently, I have 3 Veeam environments: Production, test, and DR. They support 3 vcenters. Two large capacity servers were just purchased to get all the Veeam backups off the SAN storage and on to local storage. With just 2 new systems, test would possibly merge with production. The benefits are clear. Simple and less to manage. Any serious down sides to this new design? Prod and test are on the same 10g network segment.

Hi Mark,
In a case production site with VBR server is down due to disaster, it will take more time to recover.
If you've decided to go for 1 backup server, I would suggest to install it on DR site.

To clarify: The current design includes 3 VBR servers. 1 in DR. 1 in Test. 1 in Production. The redesign would be 1 (new) VBR in DR, and 1 (new) VBR for Production and Test vcenter's.

Why don't just go with a single Veeam backup server at the DR site? That would make management much easier.
of course this would only work if your DR site and it's connection to your network is always available.

You can still replicate between both sites.

Agree with Regnor. The recommended way for replications is to keep backup server on DR site.
